Position: Japanese Language Instructor, Academic Year 2024-2025

The Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies (KCJS) is seeking applicants for a position of Japanese language instructor. This is a full-time appointment with an initial one-year term, starting on July 1, 2024, and the possibility of renewal for an additional one year contingent upon funding and performance.
Responsibilities include teaching a variety of Japanese language courses from beginning- to advanced-level (2 lessons per day; 10 lessons per week (1 lesson = 60 minutes), and developing curriculum, providing advising and academic support to students, and collaborating with the faculty and staff for KCJS to better serve the international academic community.
Applicants must have a minimum of an M.A. in Japanese linguistics, language pedagogy, second-language acquisition, or a related field. Requirements include native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English, experience teaching Japanese to English speakers such as teaching at colleges in English-speaking countries, and evidence of on-going commitment to language teaching.
Applicants should provide (1) cover letter, (2) a current curriculum vitae in English (Japanese-style resume is not accepted), (3) statement of teaching philosophy in Japanese, (4) unedited teaching video (YouTube link, for example), (5) two letters of recommendation, and (6) student evaluations of at least one course to Dr. Miyuki Nishimata, KCJS Japanese Language Coordinator, at mf2249@columbia.edu.
